When a full MRI scan of the head and the neck area is needed, the patient is required to insert his/her head into this type of Head Coil and get scanned in the MRI scanner. When we provided conceptual design to Fonar for the large open MRI machine, we were also asked to conceptualize a less intimidating and more open Head Coil design. This design provides large openings to ease along the patient claustrophobic feeling, it helps with securing the head motionless in it, and works with conjunction of the vertical and horizontal bed configuration in the MRI scanner.
